Cllr Doina Cornell Leader of Stroud District Labour Group said “Like many Stroud district residents and people throughout the world I was shocked and angered by George Floyd’s death which sadly is only one of far too many black deaths at the hands of the police. I was appalled by the response of President Trump and the failure of the UK Government to condemn his actions in the wake of George Floyd’s killing, and the force used against peaceful protestors.
“Stroud District Labour group is committed to eradicate the hatred, racism and discrimination that exists in all our communities.
“All of us need to understand and address the reality and impact of anti-black racism. In supporting Black Lives Matter, we recognise the historic and institutional injustice experienced by BAME people across the world, and reaffirm our commitment to promoting equality and tackling discrimination. We stand in solidarity with those protesting.”
