The portrayal of women in the media is the subject of a discussion on Thursday with Shadow Secretary of State of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Jo Stevens and NUJ general secretary Michelle Stanistreet.
Hosted by Stroud CLP, the online meeting takes place at 7pm on October 15, and will focus on how the Labour Party and journalists themselves are tackling sexism in the media industry.
Stroud CLP Women’s Officer Danae Savvidou said: “Women are objectified, infantilised and sexualised by large parts of the media, and their views dismissed because of their gender, regardless of their qualifications, education or experience.
“Women working in politics and journalism are also all too often the victims of sexism and misogyny, so it will be fascinating – and chilling – to hear at first hand about the abuse and threats they experience, and about what measures are being taken to redress the balance so women are treated fairly in the media.”
