Rodborough has two churches: the Church of St Mary Magdalene and the Tabernacle, two Primary Schools: Rodborough and Gastrells, and several halls and smaller venues.
There is a strong local community with lots of volunteer engagement around Rodborough Mutual Aid Network and the Freezer of Love as well as a number of historical, social and environmental groups.
* LEAD ON BECOMING A CARBON NEUTRAL DISTRICT BY 2030
We are committed to continuing Stroud District’s journey to Carbon Neutral 2030. It is the right plan, at the right time.
* SUPPORT LOCAL PEOPLE TO HAVE MORE SAY AND CONTROL IN THEIR COMMUNITIES
We will work to improve opportunities for young people in Rodborough (and throughout the whole of Stroud District) and to promote their voice on Stroud District Council and involvement in its work. We will put people at the heart of everything we do.
* SUPPORT LOCAL JOBS AND BUSINESSES THAT LEAD ON ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL GOOD PRACTICE
Rodborough is a thriving, creative and enterprising part of Stroud District. We will do what we can to nurture and support small businesses here to grow, to reinvest in the local economy and to follow best practice on environment and employment.
Nigel Prenter has been representing Rodborough on Stroud District Council since 2011.
He is on the Community Services and Licensing Committee and sits on panels deciding on licensing issues.
Nigel taught Government and Politics at Stroud High School for twenty-eight years and is well known to many parents and young people in the area.
At the moment he is supporting setting up a Rodborough Youth Forum for SDYC and trying to get funding for Rodborough Youth.
He sits on the Stroud and Rodborough Educational Charity, which dispenses sometimes hefty grants to children and young people under 25. Nigel also attends Cowle Trust meetings regarding the Museum in the Park and Stratford Park Management Committee meetings. A review of Leisure provision in Stroud District is currently under way. During lockdown he has volunteered on the Community Helpline when it was initially set up.
“My two particular areas of interest are Youth Services and Stratford Park. I attend Stroud District Youth Council meetings and have been at the forefront of getting SDYC members involved in the performance monitoring of all SDC’s committees.”

“I have lived and worked in Rodborough for the last 12 years and you can often find me walking along Bath Road to the newsagents or pacing up Walkley Hill to the Community Hall. I have been a Parish Councillor for Rodborough since 2018. During this time I have worked closely with the Parish alongside our District and County Councillors to provide support, advice, leadership and action for our community.”
I have worked with charity fundraisers, Stroud District Foodbank, Rodborough Sunday Social, Rodborough Youth and Rodborough CAN (Climate Action Network), to help meet the needs of our most vulnerable, young and elderly residents and to begin the work of building a sustainable and resilient community in Rodborough.
The COVID pandemic has demanded rapid and comprehensive action from all of us and I am proud of the role that I have been able to play as a small part of Rodborough Community Mutual Aid Network. It has been a joy to watch our community knit back together as we all begin to realise that by working together we can achieve so much more.
I am a member of the Labour & Co-operative Parties and Unite the Union and a key co-ordinator for Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform in the South West.
I am fiercely committed to honesty, representation, advocacy and being a clear voice for our community.
“I am putting myself forward to represent Rodborough on the District Council so that I can play my part in delivering Carbon Neutral 2030. The Climate & Ecological Emergency is the biggest threat to us all now and in the future.”
