We are proud to have candidates standing in all 51 seats in the forthcoming Stroud District Council elections on 2nd May. Labour is a party which gets things done.
- We will make community engagement a priority, working with tenant groups and other stakeholders. In council and private housing we will bring all properties up to a good living standard, and working with Community Land Trusts will help reduce housing waiting lists.
- We will prioritise supporting our communities, developing the district’s network of Community Hubs: this will improve residents’ health (both mental and physical), and social wellbeing. We are committed to invest in the provision of sport, leisure and play areas across the district, and will continue the excellent work already achieved on equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Support for our High Streets is paramount to our local economy. We will maintain free car parking (where it already exists), and review parking charges in Stroud itself. We are committed to the regeneration of key sites across the district (especially in brownfield locations) – we need to make Stroud district a more attractive area for business to invest in.
- Our support for local community re-use and repair schemes (and the restoration of the free collection of x3 bulky household items from residential properties), will help tackle the scourge of fly-tipping locally.
- We will invest in local community energy schemes, giving people cheaper and climate friendly energy generation, and we will focus on opportunities to restore and enhance local biodiversity and the natural environment. Improving community access to green spaces, as well as our walking and cycling networks will help ours become a healthier, happier and more sustainable place to live.
This year’s elections give us an opportunity to transform the Stroud district in 2024.
A strong Labour council is just the start.
