Richard Maisey – District Councillor and Labour member
We heard the very sad news last week of the sudden death of our friend and Labour District Councillor, Richard Maisey, who is known by many in the CLP and further afield. Very typically he had been canvassing on the previous Sunday with Labour colleagues in apparent good health, so the news seems particularly shocking to us all.
He was a mainstay to the team supporting Simon Opher MP during the 2024 General Election as Simon’s Agent, chauffeur and friend and the hours he spent supporting Simon and the wider campaign were beyond measure. As well as supporting Simon, he successfully campaigned for the District Council seat in Severn ward – an unlikely Labour seat – so his victory was all the more a considerable achievement.
He was the Duracell bunny of campaigning – always ahead of us on the door knocking and consistently attending events across the CLP without any of the moaning that came from some of us lesser mortals. His stylish hat collection added sophistication to the many photos we have of him in action and his constant good humour lifted any campaigning session that he attended.
We have heard in tributes to him from friends and family what a man of principle he was and an advocate for Labour principles and environmental protection, so his absence will be sorely missed by his Labour family.
Our thoughts are with his family who have lost a wonderful father and grandfather.
