Simon Opher. Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for STROUD

Simon has been a local GP for 30 years and Chairs the Stroud Locality NHS. In his time as a GP he has first hand experience of how disparities in income affects peoples’ lives. In Stroud, the wealthiest people live, on average, more than nine years longer than the poorest. The solution to this, he says, isn’t medical – it’s political.

In summer 2022, Stroud Labour Party elected Simon Opher as its Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for the next General Election.

Simon has worked tirelessly with partners to improve the health of local people. In recognition of this he was awarded the MBE in 2016. Since then, his leadership in the delivery of the Covid vaccination programme in Dursley, has been considered by many to be inspirational.

Speaking of the constituency, Simon says:

“I love this area because it is a combination of lots of things that really matter to me. People genuinely care and try to look out for each other – community roots grow deep right across the constituency. At the same time we have cutting-edge industry, a strong sense of fairness and social justice, radical and innovative views on the environment and a rich history of creativity.”

The Constituency Labour Party believes that Stroud needs a local MP to represent us in Parliament, a person with local knowledge and connections who can proudly carry our values into Westminster. In Simon Opher we have someone who is ready to listen and to be a part of a Labour government dedicated to improving the lives of everyone.

The voters I meet every day inspire and encourage me more than I thought possible. A Labour win this year will give people across the Stroud district hope. My priorities are the economy, environment, health, housing, transport, education. Dr. Simon Opher
